Bassano del Grappa e Marostica

Bassano del Grappa and Marostica are two small cities in Vicenza territory, famous for different reasons. The first one was one of the most important theatre during World Wars conflicts: soldiers headed to Asiago Plateau and Partisans ready to die for their homeland, all of theirs stories left us an historical legacy, as, for example, the “Canzone del Grappa”, song written by General Emilio de Bono among the trenches. Marostica, on the other hand, brings us back in time with its medieval castles and city walls. Immersed in this fairy-tale atmosphere, the renowned Chess Game with Living Pieces take place every even year in Piazza degli Scacchi. The game want to be the reenactment of a challenge between Rinaldo d’Angarano and Vieri da Vallonara, two young scions, both in love with the beautiful Lionora. This trip wants to bring you to know these stories, some tragic, some joyful, that must be remembered in order to keep alive all those values passed down to us, fundamental parts of our social identity and our cultural and gastronomic traditions.
