THE JOURNEY – 8 Days

Autumn Trekking in Abruzzo National Park

“Are you a wolf or a Christian?” This was the question people once asked on winter nights when unfamiliar sounds could be heard outside their homes. Until the 1920s and 1930s, wolves regularly approached villages in search of food, making their presence a familiar part of everyday life. The Abruzzo National Park is one of the few places in Europe where it is still possible to experience a deep and ancestral connection with nature. Here, some of Europe's oldest forests survive, and the relationship between people and wildlife remains a living reality. It is a land where life moves at a slower pace and where local traditions, cultures, and customs are expressed not only through stories but also through landscapes and food. During this trekking journey, we will discover the Abruzzo National Park through one of its most iconic inhabitants: the Apennine wolf. Through walks, encounters, and observations, we will explore its behaviour, history, ecology, and the challenges of coexistence between humans and wildlife, gaining a deeper understanding of one of the most fascinating symbols of the Italian Apennines.
